1 Corinthians 13:1-7
1 John 4:9-10
Proverbs 15:32
Love is the essential energy of life, its deepest engine and its ultimate reason for being. It is not merely a pleasant feeling or a passing emotion. It is the original cause of creation, the impulse that gives meaning to every valuable action, and the key that turns every effort into something eternal and purposeful.
But what is love, truly? The word itself can refer to many different experiences. There are different forms of love, romantic, familial, or friendship, but there is one that stands above them: agape love.
Agape love does not arise from emotion but from decision. It does not depend on attraction, kinship, or shared interests. It is a way of choosing to treat others with a deliberate commitment to do good.
This kind of love does not appear automatically; it is chosen, and because it is chosen, it can be cultivated.
- Love is patient with the weaknesses of others and recognizes that the world does not revolve around oneself.
- Love acts with discernment. It does not always give people what they want but what they need in order to grow. Sometimes love means correcting, setting boundaries, or guiding with firmness and care.
- Love seeks no personal advantage. It is not a strategy to gain approval or exchange favors. True love desires the good of the other.
- Love does not keep a record of wrongs. It does not maintain lists of offenses or collect grievances. Love forgives, and in forgiving, it frees both the other person and oneself.
Love rejoices in truth, in justice, and in what is good. It does not celebrate wrongdoing or deceit. It shows compassion, respect, and dignity toward others. It believes the best, hopes for the best, and endures what is necessary.
Ultimately, love is the path of excellence. You may achieve success, wealth, or recognition, but without love these things cannot bring lasting fulfillment.
Love is not a fragile emotion. It is the most powerful decision you can make.
Because in the end, love does not merely improve life, it transforms it completely.
